TOM LLOYD
“Scottish Farmstead”

An early oil on canvas painting by the British artist Tom Lloyd (1849-1910) depicting a Scottish farmstead on the coast with cows and calves laying in the straw in the foreground and a Suffolk wagon behind them.

Works by this artist command good prices at auction.  Some examples are included at the end of the photos.

Frame:  Set in an elaborate, high quality, ornate gilt wooden frame.

Signature:  Lower left and dated 1877.

Provenance:  UK Private collection.

Condition:  Painting and frame are both in excellent condition.

Measurements:  Painting measures 57 x 40cm and the overall frame 80 x 63cm.

Biography:  Thomas James Lloyd (1849-1910) was a British painter who was interested mostly in landscape, genre and marine subject matter. He lived in London, Walmer Beach and Yapton Sussex.

LLoyd exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1871, but mainly at the Royal Society of Watercolorists of which he was elected an associate Member in 1878 and became a full member 8 years later.

He died in 1910.
