A charming and well painted large antique oil on canvas painting by H East (fl.1890-1920) depicting a drover herding his sheep along a country lane with a village church and houses in the background and a pond in the foreground.

Biography: H. East was a prolific painter who favoured rural scenes and landscapes, often of the south of England. During his lifetime his paintings were never publicly exhibited, but over time they have found their way into several private collections. His work has been compared favourably with that of Daniel Sherrin.
