GODEFROY de HAGEMANN
A fine oil on canvas painting by Godefroy de Hagemann (1820-1877) entitled “Cairo Souk”, depicting a busy Egyptian market street.

Frame: Presented in a very high quality giltwood/plaster frame.
Signature: Lower right and dated “75”.

Condition: Painting and frame are both in excellent condition with no re-touching visible under a blacklight.
Measurements: Painting measures 81 x 60cm and the overall frame 107 x 85cm.
Biography: Godefroy de Hagemann (1820-1877) was born in Naples and died in Paris. He studied under Filippo Palizzi.
He exhibited in Nantes in 1861 and at the Salon in Paris. He continued to exhibit his works in Paris until 1872. He travelled frequently to Asia. His paintings were inspired through his travels abroad especially of sites in Cairo.
