FRENCH SCHOOL
“Gent in Blue Coat”

An 18th Century French School antique watercolour miniature painting of a gentleman. He is wearing a blue coat, orange and red waistcoat, white stock and frilled chemise, his hair powdered and worn en queue.

Frame:  The miniature is glazed and set within an oval gilt metal frame the obverse with band of plaited hair, the reverse glazed to reveal brown woven hair.

Provenance:  The late Timothy Clowes Collection.

Condition:  Some surface dirt. Some of the hair in the border (obverse) has come unstuck and out of place. The glue residue has also browned in places. The mount has some light wear commensurate with age. The hair (verso) has some strands out of place.

Measurements:  Painting measures 4 x 3.5cm. Overall frame measures 6.8 x 6cm.
