A fine oil on canvas painting by Francois-Adolphe Grison (1845-1914) of a man smoking a pipe entitled “Long Live the Joy”, which is written on the wall above him (top right).

Frame:  Set in a later giltwood frame.

Signature:  Lower left.

Provenance:  German Private Collection.

Condition:  Painting and frame are both in good condition.

Measurements:  Painting measures 46 x 36cm and the overall frame 58 x 48cm.

Biography:  Francois Adolphe Grison was a French genre painter, born in Bordeaux in 1845.

He was schooled at Lequien and exhibited a number of genre paintings at the Paris Salon from 1873. In 1883 Grison joined the Societaire des Artiste Francais, gaining an honorable mention in 1885 as well as a third class medal in 1890.
