“Frozen Fun”

A striking oil on panel painting by Albert Eduard Moerman (1808-1856) depicting a frozen river landscape with boats locked in the ice by the quay and people walking over the ice.

Frame:  Set in the original swept giltwood frame.

Signature:  Lower left and dated 1839.

Provenance:  Registration label on reverse.  UK Private Collection.

Condition:  Painting and frame are both in good condition. There is fine craquelure throughout and some small patches of re-touching on the snow covered roof.

Measurements:  Painting measures 80 x 55cm and the overall frame 98 x 73cm.

Biography:  Albert Eduard Moerman is well known for his winter landscapes with ice skaters.  His motif and style show influences from the 17th century.
